A plumber, an electrician or a painter does not need the same website as an online store. They need to be found when someone searches for their trade in their area, to be understood quickly, and to be called with one tap from a phone. The price follows that need: it is usually a brochure website, the low end of the price scale.

This article gives the figures that apply to trades. For the general picture (quote line items, yearly costs, comparing quotes), read how much a business website costs first. As always, I don't give my own rates here.

How much does a website for a tradesman cost in 2026?

The most solid public figures I found come from France: La Fabrique du Net's website pricing barometer (July 2026 edition, data as of early July 2026, accessed October 17, 2026). It is based on 1,312 real project budgets reported by 175 agencies. These are medians: half the projects cost less, half cost more. They are in euros and describe the French market; amounts move with local rates elsewhere, but the proportions are a useful guide.

BenchmarkMedianTypical range
Brochure website (all sectors)€3,500€2,000 to €8,000
Brochure site, very small business or sole trader (Wix, WordPress)Not publishedBenchmark of €2,500 to €4,000
Real estate and construction sector (all site types)€4,500Not published
Projects with online booking€4,000Not published
Site built on Wix by an agency€2,500€1,500 to €3,500
Site built on WordPress by an agency€5,000€2,500 to €10,000

How to read these figures. They are agency budgets from a French matchmaking platform: the barometer publishes no median for freelancers. The "real estate and construction" line mixes real estate agencies, developers and trades: for a one-person trade business, the "very small business or sole trader" line is more relevant. The same barometer warns that a "complete professional" site for a few hundred euros is almost always built on an unmodified template, with no support.

How much does a do-it-yourself tradesman website cost?

With a website builder, you pay no agency: you pay the platform and do the work. Example with WordPress.com, from its official French pricing page (accessed October 17, 2026, excluding VAT):

WordPress.com planMonthly billingAnnual billingWhat the page states
Personal€9 a month€4 a month, billed for 12 monthsFree domain for one year
Premium€18 a month€8 a month, billed for 12 monthsFree domain for one year

Other builders (Wix, Squarespace) publish their prices on their official pages, which vary by country and current promotions: always check the renewal price, not just the first year. The real cost of doing it yourself is your time: writing copy, sorting photos, learning the tool, setting up search basics. I compare these tools in Wix, WordPress or a custom site.

What changes the price of a tradesman website?

For a trade business, technical features rarely push the quote up. The number of pages and the work on content do.

  • The number of services. A plumber who does emergency repairs, bathrooms, boilers and heat pumps should have a page for each. Four well-written pages cost more than one "Our services" page, and bring in more.
  • The copy. Written by you, or by the provider after an interview? The second costs more, but it often makes the difference on Google.
  • Job photos. Do you already have them, sorted and approved by your clients, or do they need organizing?
  • The quote form, especially if it lets people send photos of the problem (a leak, an electrical panel) and lands straight in your quoting tool.
  • Booking for an assessment or site visit. The barometer shows a €4,000 median for projects that include it.
  • The technology. An agency-built Wix site has a lower median than a WordPress site, but it stays tied to the platform.

What should a tradesman website include to bring in calls?

A trade website is judged on one thing: the calls and quote requests it brings. Here is what matters, and why.

ElementWhy it mattersThe trap
Tap-to-call number at the top of every pageA client with an emergency wants to call right away, often from a phoneA number inside an image that cannot be tapped
Written service areaVisitors know immediately if you cover them"The whole region" with no list of towns
Emergency hoursIt is the first question of a client with a breakdownPromising availability you cannot keep
One page per serviceEach page answers a specific searchCopy-pasted pages where only the title changes
Photos of real jobsThey prove your workStock photos presented as your projects
Client reviewsThey reassure before the callReviews copied without a link to their source, or made up
Insurance and qualificationsHomeowners check them before work startsShowing a label you do not hold

Don't forget the legal notice required where you operate. In France, for instance, the official page on mandatory website notices (Service Public Entreprendre, reviewed October 13, 2026, accessed October 17, 2026) says a trade business must show its national business register number (RNE), its contact details and those of the site's host.

That page plan is what I build in my website projects, and the base of what I offer tradespeople: a site that brings in requests, connected if needed to automatic quote follow-ups.

Should a tradesman buy or rent a website?

Trades are often offered sites with "nothing to pay upfront", for a monthly fee. Over three years, the cost difference depends mostly on the monthly fee and maintenance; over five years, buying usually costs less. The most important point is elsewhere: who owns the site and the domain when the contract ends. I did the full calculation, with the clauses to read, in pay monthly website or buy one.

When is a website not the priority for a tradesman?

  • Your schedule is full for months thanks to word of mouth. A site will mostly bring requests you turn down. A simple page, so people find you when they have your name, is enough.
  • You subcontract for other companies that bring you the jobs.
  • Your Google Business Profile is empty or wrong. Start there: hours, area, photos, replies to reviews. It is often what a client sees first.
  • You cannot call back the same day. An effective site creates requests; if nobody answers, it mostly creates disappointed clients. An automatic reply saying when you will call already helps.

FAQ

How much does a website for a plumber or electrician cost?

A plumber or electrician usually needs a brochure website. La Fabrique du Net's 2026 barometer of the French market gives a €3,500 median for an agency-built brochure site, and a benchmark of €2,500 to €4,000 for very small businesses and sole traders. The real price depends mostly on the number of pages and the copy.

Is a tradesman website for a few hundred euros realistic?

It exists, but according to the same barometer, a "complete professional" site for a few hundred euros is almost always an unmodified template with no support. Check what is included and who owns the domain.

How much does a tradesman website cost per month?

If you build it yourself, the builder subscription, for example €4 or €8 a month excluding VAT with annual billing at WordPress.com on October 17, 2026. If you buy it, domain and hosting cost a few euros a month, plus maintenance if you choose it.

Is a Google Business Profile enough for a tradesman?

To be found by name and in your area, it is a good start. But it cannot explain each service or show your jobs in detail. A short website with one page per service complements it well.

How long does it take to build a tradesman website?

For a brochure site, I usually plan 3 to 5 weeks between quote approval and launch, if copy and photos arrive on time. The exact schedule depends on the number of pages.
