You are drafting a sales proposal with Claude Code. An hour in, it has edited a file it should not have, the conversation has grown long and you no longer know how much of your plan is left. Each of these problems has its command. Type / in Claude Code to open the menu, then a few letters to filter; /help shows the full list. I left out /init and /memory, already covered in the tutorial on the CLAUDE.md file.

Rolling back

  1. /rewind: undo what the AI just didOpens the list of your messages in the session (also with Esc twice on an empty prompt). Pick a point, then restore the code, the conversation, or both. Alias: /undo.
  2. /branch: try another directionCreates a copy of the conversation at this point. You test another approach, and the original stays available through /resume.

Keeping a conversation clear

  1. /btw: a side questionAsks a question about the session without adding it to the conversation, even while Claude is working. The answer has no tool access: it relies on what has already been said.
    Claude Code
/btw what was the name of the pricing file again?
  2. /compact: summarise to free up spaceReplaces the conversation with a summary. Add an instruction to choose what must survive:
    Claude Code
/compact keep the decisions made on the proposal, the approved prices and the list of remaining tasks
  3. /recap: where are weProduces a one-line summary of the session. Handy when you come back from a break.
  4. /plan: think before actingSwitches to plan mode: Claude proposes an approach without editing files until you approve it.

/plan outline a sales proposal for an 8-person accounting firm

Finding and sharing your work

  1. /rename: name the sessionWithout an argument, Claude suggests a name drawn from the conversation. A clear name (“bakery-quote”) is easy to find later.
  2. /resume: pick up a sessionBy name or from a list. Alias: /continue.
  3. /export: keep a written recordExports the conversation as plain text, to a file or the clipboard.
    Claude Code
    /export proposal-session-2026-09-10.txt
  4. /copy: copy the last answerCopies Claude's last response. /copy 2 takes the one before, and when there are code blocks, a picker lets you take just one.

Watching your usage and your setup

  1. /usage: your consumptionShows the session cost, your plan limits and what is using them. Aliases: /cost and /stats.
  2. /insights: a review of your habitsGenerates an HTML report on your recent sessions on this computer: projects, ways of working, where things go wrong, features to try.
  3. /doctor: the health checkDiagnoses installation, settings, extensions and your CLAUDE.md files, then proposes fixes that Claude applies once you confirm.

Two related settings

  • Write your /compact and /plan instructions in the language you want back, and say so explicitly if an answer comes out in the wrong one.
  • /config opens the settings (theme, model, output style). And to run a task at a set time, /schedule creates a routine: see the tutorial on Claude Code routines.

Limits

  • Some commands depend on your version, your plan or where you run Claude Code: /insights, for example, is not available in cloud sessions. If a command is missing from the menu, update Claude Code.
  • The list changes often: /release-notes shows what is new in each version.

Good to know. /rewind only restores files changed by Claude's editing tools. A file deleted or moved by a terminal command (rm, mv) or changed outside the session does not come back: keep a backup or a Git history for important folders. And a conversation export may contain client data: store it like a confidential document.
